Comments from Players

The comments heard were 99.41 percent positive:

  • Schedule of events was great. Thanks go to Lon Bell, Richard Cornett, and Betsy Becker.
  • Partnerships.  Special accolades go to chairman Gloria Bridges and her committee who did a tremendous job matching players at the last minute.
  • Speakers. While the local talent--Phil Fassett, Richard Cornett, Duane Morrow, and John Lawler--did a bang-up job, we were delighted that Barry Harper, a visiting bridge pro from Canada, volunteered to fill out the schedule and packed the house.
  • Hospitality. Both the nightly desserts and the Sunday luncheon were great.  Highest praise, however, went to the desserts brought in by Evansville players on Thursday. Thank you to Hospitality Chair Jane Gaunt who set it all up and to Betsy Becker who took over when Jane had emergency surgery the day before.
  • Tournament Directors.  As always, Charlie McCracken and Jay Albright, were widely applauded.
  • Game Room:  Everyone loved the spacious game room and the attentive hotel staff. Thank you Alexa Stahl and Lisa Brown
  • Hotel Rooms.  Out-of-towners appreciated their newly renovated hotel rooms and free breakfast.

Attendance

A Perfect Storm seriously impacted attendance:  1) the fact that it was a Split Regional; 2) nearby Nashville ran a Sectional from Thursday to Sunday; and 3) the sinking economy.  So, yes, total attendance was way down from projections  Still we did show a tidy profit - and can't wait to do it again.
